Functional lifestyle coaching addresses the underlying causes of chronic illness by tending to the whole person, and not just an isolated set of symptoms. By shifting the focus from a disease-centered approach to a patient-centered approach, functional health practitioners and coaches evaluate interactions between genetic, physical and environmental lifestyle factors of their patients, enabling them to customize a "wellness prescription" that is unique to each and every individual. Focusing on elements such as diet, nutrition, quality of food, exercise, hydration, stress, and much more, functional health looks to improve the quality of life by tending to the core of health behaviours, to take a preventative approach to help avoid the onset of certain illnesses and conditions. Essentially, functional nutrition and lifestyle recommendations look to help the patient not only overcome illness, but thrive with health and vitality. The functional medicine coach will consider multiple factors that contribute to wellbeing, including:
  •  Health History: Although genes may make you more susceptible to some diseases, your DNA is not an unchanging blueprint for your life. Emerging research shows that your genes may be influenced by everything in your environment such as the foods you eat, your level of activity, as well as your experiences, attitudes and even beliefs. This means that with proper guidelines, it is possible to change the way genes are activated and expressed.
  •  Environmental Inputs: From the air you breathe, to the water you drink, the quality of food available to you, your level of physical activity, your stressors, and toxic/traumatic exposure you have experienced in your life all have an accumulating impact on your health. By addressing past issues and making customized recommendations, functional lifestyle coaches are able to create a lifestyle plan that fits each unique individual's needs.
  •  Mind-body Connections: Last but not least, by taking psychological, spiritual, and social factors into account, functional lifestyle coaches are able to see your health in the context of you as a whole person, and not just your physical symptoms.

Step 1: Initial Consultation & Gathering 

During the initial session, our health coach will sit down with you to get a better idea of your health history and your health goals. You will be given a series of assessments to complete in order for us to get clarity on the best solutions for your unique situation. 

Step 2: Report of Findings & Plan of Action 

Our second session will consist of a report of findings based on the results of your assessments, from which we will use as a base to map out your plan of action. Your plan of action will consist of a personalized meal plan, functional exercise and movement interventions, supplement suggestions, and lastly, sleep and mindfulness suggestions.

Step 3: Ongoing Coaching (optional) 

In order to help you implement and stay accountable to the lifestyle changes suggested, we also offer ongoing coaching services on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. Having a health coach is not only beneficial to following through with your plan of action but also to learn strategies to develop long-term sustainable healthy lifestyle changes.

          Meet the Practitioner

          Dr. Nathalie Beauchamp, B.Sc., D.C. is a recognized TV and radio personality and international speaker. She is a doctor of chiropractic, former professional natural figure/bodybuilder, and Functional Medicine (IFM) practitioner candidate based in Ottawa, Canada.

          Amongst some of her many accomplishments, Dr. Nathalie is the co-author of the published book Wellness on The Go: Take the Plunge- It’s Your Life as well as author of the upcoming book, Hack Your Health Habits. She is also the founder of the annual Ottawa Health & Wellness Expo—a community based event that gathers more than 2,500 health conscious people each year and features world class keynote speakers, as well as the W3 Ottawa Event: Women – Wisdom – Wellness, a daylong seminar created to inspire and empower women in her area that hosted 200 attendees.  

          Dr. Nathalie’s mission is to lead through education, helping people empower themselves to live their best, most healthy, and fulfilling life. Her passion for health reverberates in everything she does. Having overcome a serious eating disorder in her teenage years, Dr. Nathalie recognizes the importance of leading a naturally healthy life. In fact, fitness and a healthy lifestyle have been at the core of every personal and professional milestone she has achieved so far. 

          Meet the Coach

          Parmees Yazdanyar is a functional lifestyle and mindset coach, personal trainer and nutritional counsellor based in Ottawa, Canada. She acquired her B.A in Psychology and Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa and is currently doing her training at the Institute of Functional Medicine Coaching Academy.

          Her passions being deeply rooted in positive psychology, functional medicine, and emotional intelligence, Parmees has been helped hundreds of clients find their path to wellness since 2014. Having committed to well-being to emerge from the depths of physical and emotional limitations herself, she strives to become a motivational force for others to learn from.

          Her mission is to educate, inspire, and empower others to overcome physical, mental, and spiritual obstacles that are holding them back from achieving their full potential by using evidence based practices to adopt and sustain behaviours that improve health and quality of life.

          Her practices emphasize a balance between the body mind; and encourage the belief that anything can be accomplished with proper dedication, guidance, and a positive mindset.
